Before you visit

Trains run daily from 1st April. The shop, cafe & museum are open (and free to visit) every day, 9 am – 3 pm (last hot food orders at 2 pm).

We currently have available:

· Talyllyn Explorer Tickets. These are in shared seating areas. Passengers may ‘hop on hop off’ services and enjoy the countryside and catch a later train. Members are entitled to concessionary explorer tickets.

· Private Compartments – this gives you an exclusive area which is not shared with anyone else. Standard compartments seat up to 6 adults in comfort. These must be pre-booked before the day of travel.

· First Class Compartment – a premium private space, again seating up to 6 adults. Two compartments available per train, these can also be pre-booked as private compartments.

Note: Compartment bookings are for round trips starting/ending at Tywyn Wharf station only. Break of journey on route is NOT permitted.

Absolutely, we request that they are kept off the seats and under control.  A dog rover ticket is £4 and they receive their own ‘doggie bag’!  Find out more here.

Driver experiences have now restarted, email [email protected] to book your date (must be 4 weeks in advance).

Unfortunately, due to a safety review, we are now unable to offer footplate rides.

We have an accessible compartment available for use on each train, pre-booking is recommended – call 01654 710472. Please let us know details of your requirements when booking so we are ready to assist, especially if you are non-ambulant.

Talyllyn Explorer Tickets in shared seating areas are available on the day of travel, compartments must still be pre-booked at least a day before travel.

We recommend that you arrive at least 30 minutes before departure time. If you wish to make use of the Café, shop & Museum before you travel, please allow extra time.

On the Train

Yes – we operate a ‘hop on hop off’ service for ‘Explorer’ ticket holders.  Those with Explorer tickets can alight and enjoy the countryside and join a later train.  Please make sure you check the timetable before doing so.

Those who have booked private compartments will have their exclusive use for a round trip starting and ending at Tywyn Wharf. These private compartments must be pre-booked online before the day of travel.

Prosecco and Welsh Hampers, along with disposable glasses and cutlery, will be ready for you to collect from the cafe at Wharf before you board the train. Cream Teas will be served during the refreshment stop at Abergynolwyn.

In Each hamper you have a feast of local Welsh Produce to enjoy on your trip:

  • Sandwich (ham, cheese, tuna or egg on white or brown bread)
  • Savoury snack (e.g sausage roll)
  • Salad Pot
  • Bottle of water
  • Yoghurt pot

Once booked you will be emailed for your choices.  You can choose to have the Hamper at Wharf or Abergynolwyn for the out or return journey.  Hampers are £8.50 per person

The ‘Engine Drivers’ child’s lunch box has half a sandwich, pom bears snack, a yoghurt pot and a carton of juice (£5.00)

Cream Teas have a reserved table at Abergynolwyn.  Freshly homemade scone, jam, clotted cream, and tea/coffee or juice.

Our standard compartment seating up to 6, comfortable seating and two opening droplights.

Our First class compartment – premium seating up to 6 people

Our saloon offers an accessible space and seating for up to 12 people and also is an accessible space.  Good views behind the loco on the journey up to Nant Gwernol, rear of the train on the way down – great views.  Only one per train.

Finally – our open carriage, possible the best way to enjoy the countryside and the sights and smells of the train.  Included in the train until the weather becomes too cold!  Seats up to 6 – dogs love them!
